Jawaharlal Darda

Jawaharlal Darda was a veteran Indian freedom fighter and a dedicated politician of Indian National Congress (INC). Jawaharlal Darda served as Minister for industries and energy in the Maharashtra cabinet.[1] He was the Founder Editor of Lokmat group of newspapers (now Lokmat Media).[2]

Career

Jawaharlal Darda started his journey as a social worker and then, inspired by father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, plunged into the freedom struggle. [3]

Awards and achievements

On 12 September 2013, Jawaharlal Darda was posthumally conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award at UK's House of Commons.[4] Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering and Technology, was established at Yavatmal by Shri Jawaharlal Darda Educational Society in 1995.[3]

Death

Jawaharlal Darda died on 25 November 1997. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid homage to former State Minister Jawaharlal Darda on his 17th death anniversary.[5] He is survived by Vijay Darda and Rajendra Darda.
