Jay Sayta
Jay Sayta, is a technology and gaming lawyer based in India. He is a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) graduate from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) Kolkata. He founded the website Glaws.in in the year 2010 monitoring gambling, betting and lottery laws. Glaws was subsequently acquired by Nordanvind Investments Limited in November 2019.[1]

Sayta has researched and written extensively on gambling and betting laws for various online and offline publications and academic journals like Outlook, Medianama, The Statesman, Scroll, The Wire, Asia Gaming Brief etc.[2][3] He regularly writes for academic journals.[4][5]
Controversies
In 2017, an e-gambling company E-cool Gaming, a group company of Essel Group filed a criminal defamation suit against Sayta and The Wire for reporting on its CAG audit.[6][7]
The case was withdrawn after a stay order by the Gauhati high court’s Aizawl bench [8]
Notable cases
In 2015, Jay filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court to enforce the Maharashtra Casinos (Control & Tax) Act, 1976, a four decades legislation that legalised casinos in the state of Maharashtra. Based on Jay's PIL, the High Court directed the government to consider the implementation of the casinos' legislation in a time-bound manner.[9] Currently, the state government of Maharashtra is looking at permitting licensed casinos based on Sayta's PIL.[10][11]
Sayta has represented one of the petitioners before the Madras High Court that struck down amendments to the Tamil Nadu Gaming Act, 1930 that prohibited online games of skill like poker and rummy.[12] He regularly advises bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, lawyers, corporate professionals, gaming companies on gambling and gaming laws.[13]
He is also an active angel investor and Editorial Advisor to the website Gateway to Gaming (G2G.news).[14]
