Jersey (2021 film)

Jersey is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language sports drama film written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, a remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same title.[5] It stars Shahid Kapoor as a cricketer, alongside Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur.[6][7] The film is produced by Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments and Brat Films.[8]

Official announcement for the film was made in October 2019[9] and principal photography commenced in Chandigarh on 13 December 2019.[10] It was scheduled to be theatrically released on 28 August 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed production.[11][12] The film wrapped up on 14 December 2020.[13] The film will theatrically release on 31 December 2021 coinciding with New Year.[4]

Premise

The story is about a thirty six year old cricketer named Arjun who stopped his cricketing career ten years ago, now aiming to play for Indian team.

Speculations for remake of the Telugu film Jersey (2019) began soon after its cinema release. Later it was reported that Shahid Kapoor has been roped in to star as the lead actor while Shraddha Kapoor was considered for the female lead.[14] In August 2019, it was confirmed that kannada actress Rashmika Mandanna will make her Hindi film debut with the film. Official announcement was made on 14 October that year, confirming all the cast and crew.But later Mrunal Thakur was finalised to cast in the movie[15] Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur was roped in to portray Coach Murthy before the principal photography commenced on 14 December 2019 in Chandigarh.

While filming in January 2020, it was reported that Shahid Kapoor received thirteen stitches during a scene, though he later recovered.[16] In October and November, production moved to Dehradun, and filming took place at the all-boys' boarding school, The Doon School, and Kasiga School. Doon's cricket grounds, buildings and pavilion feature in the film and the trailer.[17] The film was wrapped up on 14 December 2020.[18][19]

The film's music is composed by Sachet–Parampara while the lyrics are written by Shellee.
