Jesús Ferreira

Jesús David Ferreira Castro (born December 24, 2000) is a professional soccer player for Major League Soccer club FC Dallas. Born in Colombia, he represents the United States national team.

In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Ferreira and the second or maternal family name is Castro.

Club Career

Ferreira moved from Colombia to Dallas when he was 10 years old.[2] He eventually signed a homegrown player contract with FC Dallas on November 17, 2016.[3] He made his professional debut on June 3, 2017, as a 71st minute substitute during a 6–2 win over Real Salt Lake, scoring his first goal in the 89th minute of the game.[4]

In May 2018, Ferreira was loaned to Tulsa Roughnecks FC.[5] He scored his first goal for Tulsa Roughnecks FC on August 18, 2018, against Real Monarchs.[6] He scored his first career hat-trick on September 5, 2018, against Seattle Sounders FC 2.[7]

International Career

Prior to obtaining U.S. citizenship, Ferreira attended United States youth camps.[8] In 2016, Ferreira was called up to the United States U17 squad.[9] In 2019, Ferreira received a call-up to the United States U23 team ahead of qualifying games for the 2020 Summer Olympics.[10] After that had been postponed due to Covid, he was called up again to the 2020 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship team.[11] The team would fail to qualify for the Olympics.

Ferreira made his first senior U.S. camp in January 2020 after receiving his citizenship.[12] On February 1, 2020, he made his senior international debut for the United States in its friendly against Costa Rica.[13] On January 31, 2021, Ferreira scored his first and second goals at that level and was named Man of the Match in a game following his second January camp with the senior team.[14]

Personal life

Jesús is the son of David Ferreira, a professional footballer who played for clubs including; América de Cali, Atlético Paranaense, FC Dallas and the Colombia national team.[15] In December 2019, the younger Ferreira received U.S. citizenship.[16]
