José Pizarro
José Pizarro is a Spanish-born chef who moved to London in 1998[1] where he popularized Spanish cuisine in late 1990s.[2] He started his UK food business by importing Spanish products, under the Brindisa[3] brand name.[4] In 2011 he opened his first eatery on London’s Bermondsey Street – José – offering simple and traditional tapas.[5] His other restaurants include: José Pizarro (at Broadgate Circle), The Swan Inn (at Esher)[6] and the pop-up restaurant Little José (in Canary Wharf).[7] In 2012 he opened up his first Maltby Street market stall.[8]
Pizarro has been referred to as the Godfather of Spanish cooking in the UK.[9] Before going solo, Pizarro was head chef at Eyre Brothers.[10] In April 2020, a few weeks after the UK pandemic-induced lockdown, he created Finish at Home Tapas Kits.[11]
