Judith Balcazar
Judith Balcazar (born 1954) is an entrepreneur and fashion designer who co-founded Giggle Knickers with Anne Davidson. Balcazar also co-founded a fashion company, Wall Luxury Essentials Limited. She was listed among the BBC’s 100 most influential women in 2018 for her earth friendly invention – Giggle Knickers, a company which makes special underwear ranging from thongs to full briefs for women suffering from urinary incontinence.[1][2]
Biography
Balcazar suffered urinary incontinence following a surgery to remove a benign tumour from her bladder which weakened her muscles finding it difficult to cough or laugh without wetting herself. This made her to start looking for adult nappies but said she was ashamed moving from one chemist to another or going to “TENA aisle of shame” asking for adult nappy.[3] She then conceived an idea of designing a nappy. She shared this idea with her longtime friend, Anne Davidson over a cup of tea and they started working on it immediately.[4]
Their initial fund of $32,000 was a government loan.[5]
