Juliette Ernst
Juliette Ernst (born January 12 1900 in Algiers; died March 28 2001 in Lutry, Vaud) was a Swiss classical philologist and editor of L'Année philologique for many years.
Education
Juliette Ernst studied Classical Philology at the Universities of Lausanne, Geneva and Paris, where she came into contact with Jules Marouzeau.
Career
In 1928 she joined the editorial team of the magazine L’Année philologique, which he was in charge of, and of which she was a member until 1990, and since 1964 she has been the editor-in-chief.[1]
From 1942 to 1948 she was a French lecturer at the University of Basel[2]
From 1947 to 1948, Juliette Ernst played a key role in the formation of the Fédération Internationale des Associations d’Études Classiques (FIEC), which was officially founded in Paris on September 28 and 29, 1948. She initially acted as Deputy Secretary General of the Fédération, then from 1954 to 1974 as Secretary General.[1]
Recognition
In 1939, Juliette Ernst was awarded an honorary PhD of her alma mater Lausanne for her achievements.[1]
