Julio Martinez Acosta
Julio Martinez Acosta (17/08/1879 - 17/02/1957) was an Ecuadorian Lieutenant and politician; he worked for the famous Ecuador President, Eloy Alfaro, he was the youngest leader of General Alfaro.[1]
Background
Lieutenant Colonel Don Julio Martinez Acosta was born in Huaca, Carchi province in Ecuador, on August 17, 1879; his parents were prominent parliamentarian Dr. David Martínez de Orbe and Ms. Mercedes Acosta Calderón.[2]
His early childhood was spent in the countryside. He entered the army at 15 years old. Acosta made a brilliant military career, participating in all the struggles for the maintenance of liberalism in Ecuador, helping from different angles to its strengthening and making available to its noble ideals all his skills and all his economic assets . He reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, when he was just 27 years old. In his youth, he could already boast a vast illustration of a large background of military and political culture; he had under his command several battalions; and he participated to the Liberal Revolution of 1895. It was also the first assistant of General Rafael Arellano, played the Undersecretary of the Ministry of War and Navy in the second administration of Gen. Alfaro.
In his civilian life, Lieutenant Colonel Julio Martinez Acosta, played repeatedly the Presidency of the City Council of Tulcán, was Governor of the Province of Carchi and police commissioner, positions from which he contributed decisively to the progress of the Tulcán canton and the entire province .
During a period of his life, he was imprisoned because of his participation to the Liberal Revolution of 1895,at the end of which President Alfaro was killed.[3][4]
He died in Quito at the age of 78, on 17 February 1957, without losing his moral and ideological convictions.[5]
Now, in Tulcán, there is a famous school with his name.[6]
