Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal (transl. Two loves as the air passes) is the soundtrack album for the upcoming Tamil-language romantic drama film of the same name directed by Vignesh Shivan. The film, produced jointly by Rowdy Pictures and Seven Screen Studios, stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles. The soundtrack features music scored by Anirudh Ravichander, in his 25th film as a composer. Besides directing, Shivan also wrote lyrics for all the tracks. As of November 2021, two songs from the film were released as singles.

Development and release

The film marks Anirudh's third collaboration with Vignesh as a director, after Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) and Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018), whose albums emerged success.[1] With the duo's plans of releasing singles occassionaly on Valentine's Day,[2][3] the makers released the song "Rendu Kaadhal" on 14 February 2021.[4] Anirudh sang this song with female vocals accompanied by Shakthisree Gopalan and Aishwarya Suresh Bindra.[4] The composer, also featured in the promotional video released on the same date, along with Samyuktha Vishwanathan and Reshma Nambiar, that revolves around "double love failure and heartbreak".[5]

Though Vignesh Shivan announced that the second single will be released on July 2021 in an online interaction with fans,[6] the song which was later titled "Two Two Two" was eventually released on 18 September,[7] which coincided the director's birthday.[8][9] This song also had vocals by Anirudh, along with female singers Sunidhi Chauhan and Sanjana Kalmanje.[8] It also released in a promotional music video format in YouTube, with the composer. Both, the promotional videos were directed by Shivan himself.[8]

Reception

Indiaglitz praised the first single "Rendu Kaadhal", saying that the orchestration and melancholic moments "brings the mood to life" and the lyrics of Vignesh Shivan"expresses complex feelings in the simplest manner".[5] The second single "Two Two Two" received positive response from music critics and actress Priyanka Chopra, shared and praised the song through social media.[10][11] It eventually crossed 18 million views in YouTube, and became trending in social media and music platforms.[12]
