Karl Johan Lips

Karl Johan Lips (born July 20, 1996, nicknamed "Juss") is an Estonian professional basketball player who plays for Chieti Basket 1974 in Serie A2.[1]

Professional career

In 2021, Lips joined KK Viimsi and averaged 14.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game. On November 19, 2021, he signed with Chieti Basket 1974 of the Serie A2 Basket.[2]

Estonian 3x3 national team

Lips is a member of the Estonian 3x3 national basketball team since 2019.[3] In FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019, the team finished in 15th[4] and in FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2021 7th,[5] where Juss Lips lead the team in scoring with 18 points in 3 games (6ppg).[6]

Personal life

Juss is the son of Valdo Lips who himself racked up 13 seasons and 416 games in Korvpalli Meistriliiga. Valdo (or as he is known - "Big V") played as a point guard and was known for "dishing out assists to the best shooters on the team and his stocky frame that would suit rather well an ice hockey player".[7] In addition to his playmaking, Big V showed a nack for scoring himself averaging an impressive 16.86ppg in only his 2nd year ('89/'90) in the league.[8]

For the 2nd part of '20/'21 and until the departure of Juss to Italian Serie A2 during '21/'22 season, Big V and Juss joined forces as a coach-player duo for Tallinna Kalev & KK Viimsi.
