Kate Lilley

Kate Lilley was born in Perth, Western Australia and moved to Sydney with her family. She is the daughter of writers Dorothy Hewett and Merv Lilley, and sister of Rozanna Lilley. The sisters claim they were sexually assaulted by various men who visited the family home in the 1970s. They allege that the abuse was encouraged by their mother.[1] The sisters allege these men included Bob Ellis, Martin Sharp and photographer David Hamilton. [2] [3] [4] [5]

After studying at the University of Sydney she completed a PhD at University of London on masculine elegy.

Lilley published Versary,[6] her first volume of poems, in 2002, and Ladylike[7] in 2012. Lilley edited The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish (Penguin Classics, 1994).[8] In 2010 she edited Selected Poems of Dorothy Hewett for UWA Press.[9]

Lilley has a "featured cameo" as Vera Newby in the film The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith.

She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Sydney. [10]
