King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief)

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) was established by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in 2005.[1] The Supervisor General of the KSRelief is Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah.[2] The center was established in the framework of the Saudi’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of those in need worldwide.[3] KSRelief has concluded a number of agreements with the UNHCR that aim at supporting refugees from Syria, Yemen and Rohingya.[4]

Since its establishment, KSRelief has helped 44 countries.[5] and spent $3.25 billion on 1,011 projects.[6][7] The center mainly works to relieve people in conflict zones, especially Yemen.[8] In Ramadan 2019, KSRelief has provided free food baskets to Muslims in 13 countries for a total amount of $14 million.[9]

Partnerships

KSRelief has partnered a number of humanitarian organizations including, World Food Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Nations Children's Emergency Fund, International Committee of the Red Cross and many others.[10]

Supporting Lebanon

KSRelief has signed six agreements to support Lebanon as it is a country that hosts a great number of Syrian and Palestinian refugees.[11] During Eid 2019 season, KSRelief provided assistance to around 3000 needy families, Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese.[12]

Supporting Yemen

During the current humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Saudi Arabia thrives to help alleviating people's suffering. Among the provided assistance, KSRelief distributes food-baskets, emergency kits and blankets to the needy people of Yemen.[13] KSRelief has sent dialysis machines to be used in different public health facilities in Yemen.[14] In 2019, Saudi Arabia signed multi-million dollar contracts to implement a number of vital projects to assist needy People of Yemen.[15] Moreover, KSRelief has collaborated with the UAE and the UNICEF to provide a financial support of $70 million to Yemeni teachers who have not received their salaries since months.[16] In June 2019, KSRelief has contributed to relieve people affected by floods AL-Jawf governorate, Yemen. 1,900 food baskets were distributed for the benefit of 11,448 individuals.[9] Moreover, in Eid-Al-Fitr 2019, KSRelief has provided toys, clothing and other items to 7,590 children in Yemen.[9] Until mid-2019, KSRelief contributed an amount of $12 billion to support Yemeni people.[17] In June 2019, KSRelief launched development initiatives aimed at protecting orphans’ families in Yemen. The sustainable development initiatives included projects such as improving livelihoods in Yemen with a focus on mothers’ livelihood.[18]

Saudi Arabia has implemented a mines clearance project in Yemen for an amount of $31 million. In the first phase of the project, 74,000 mines and shells were extracted. The main aim of the project is to reduce the number of those who die and get wounded due to mines.[19]

Another program has been launched in Yemen to rehabilitate young people who worked for the Houthis.[20]

On April 19,2021, KSRelief signed two agreements with the International War and Disaster Victims Protection Association. The first one, worth $5.5 million, will support primary healthcare services and will manage the malnutrition in Yemen, while the second one, worth $1.7 million, will provide physical rehabilitation services for people with special needs.[21]

Supporting Syria

KSRelief concluded an agreement with the UNHCR and the Norwegian Refugee Council to relieve Syrian refugees in Zaatari and Al-Azraq refugee camps in Jordan.[4]

On April 19, 2021, KSrelief signed an agreement worth $972,000 with the International War and Disaster Victims Protection Association to support healthcare services for Syrian refugees in Arsal-Lebanon.[22]

Volunteer Platform

It is an online platform that allows people to donate online with the use of credit cards and other online payment methods.[17]
