The Kusakaru-Kotsu, Inc. (草軽交通株式会社, Kusakaru Koutsu Kabushiki-gaisha) is a bus company, which was established on 8 April 1987 as Kusakaru Kanko Bus. Inc (草軽観光バス, Kusakaru Kankou Basu Kabushiki gaisha) in Karuizawa.[2]
Outline
The company was established as a bus department of railway company which was named Kusakaru Electric Railway which established on 28 September 1912, this companies' headquarters is located on Shibuya, the other hand, the railway department was discontinued in 1962. After that the company was renamed Kusakaru electric Railway to Kusakaru Kotsu in 1966.
In 2001, the company sold out a taxi department. Besides, tour bus and chartered bus department of this company was split into Kusakaru Kanko Bus. So, this company had operated only route buses since then, but this company broke away from Tokyu Corporation in 30 September 2009. Therefore, this company commenced operating chartered bus business and route buses. Kusakaru Kotsu had managed hotels, but the capital of Tokyu withdrew from Kusatsu Onsen Tokyu (Now:Kusatsu Onsen Resort) on 30 September and Ikaho Tokyu Ville (Now: Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ikaho) in 31 March 2007, so this company does not manage any hotel.[3] Since 30 June 2011, this company has made an investment in Ueda Bus,[4] and has become a parent company of Ueda Bus.
History
- 1928 - Permitted Kusatsu Electric Railway Corporation to operate a bus business by MLIT.[2]
- 1939 - The corporation was renamed Kusatsu Electric Railway Corporation to Kusakaru Electric Railway Corporation.[2]
- 1945 - The company had become an affiliated company of Tokyu Corporation.[2]
- 1960 - Stations of Kusakaru Electric Railway Line in between Karuizawa Station and Joshu-Mihara station were discontinued, this company was rebuilding of bus routes and commenced operationg bustitution.[2]
- 1962 - Stations of Kusakaru Electric Railway Line in between Karuizawa Station and Kusatsu Onsen Station were discontinued, so the company got specialized in operated route bus and chartered bus.[2]
- 1966 - The corporation was renamed Kusakaru Electric Railway Corporation to Kusakaru-Kotsu, Inc..[2]
- 1987 - Kusatsu Kanko Bus, was established in Komoro, Nagano, specilized in chartered bus.
- 2001 - Transferred a taxi and hire department to Daiichi Kotsu, and a chartered bus sector was transferred to Kusakaru Kanko Bus.
- 2009
- On 30 September - This companies' shares were sold out from Tokyu Corporation to J・L・D LLC, and the company was broken away from Tokyu Corporation.
- On 1 October - All business of Kusakaru Kotsu excluding a property sector were merged into Kusakaru Kanko Bus, and Kusakaru Kanko Bus resumed as Kusakaru Kotsu.[5]

The Ueda Bus CO., LTD. (上田バス株式会社, Ueda bas Kabushiki gaisya) was established as a subsidiary company of Ueda Electric Railway and had belonged to Tokyu Corporation Group until 2009. The Ueda Bus has been an affiliated company of Kusakaru Kotsu since 2011.

The company was established in 1987 as Joden Kanko Bus (上電観光バス株式会社, Ueda Kankou Basu Kabushiki gaisya), but this company didn't operate any bus route because present bus routes had been operated by a bus sector of Ueda Kotsu since 1952 until 1999.[6] Besides, the bus department had belonged to Tokyu Corporation since 1958 until 2009.
