Lalluji Muni
Lalluji Muni (1853-1935 AD) was a Jain monk, devotee of Shrimad Rajchandra and founder of Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram, Agas.
Early life
Lalluji Muni was born in Vataman, a village in the Bhal region of Gujarat, in 1853 in a reputed Bhavsar family. His father, Krishnadas passed away before his birth. The only child of four mothers, he was brought up with great love. He married twice at a young age, but had no children. Then, suddenly, he contracted anaemia and sought numerous different treatments to no avail. He resolved to renounce the world if he recovered.
Lalluji Muni and his neighbourhood friend, Shri Devkaranji, were initiated by Shri Harakhchandji Muni, a monk from the Sthanakvasi sect in 1883 AD in Khambhat.[1]
Association with Shrimad Rajchandra
After renunciation, Lalluji Muni studied the scriptures and fasted regularly, however he felt neither the peace he expected or received answers to questions. After living 5 years in such a mental state he heard about Shrimad Rajchandra from Ambalalbhai and had the opportunity to read Shrimad's letters.[1]
In 1889, Shrimad visited Khambhat during Diwali and impressed everyone by his knowledge and power to do Avdhans. Though Shri Lalluji Muni was 14 years older than him and a monk, he prostrated thrice in front of Shrimad, a young 22-year-old householder and conveyed his desire for enlightenment and firmness in celibacy.
Shrimad Rajchandra gave the mantra ‘Atambhavna bhavta jiva lahe kevaljnan re’ to Lalluji Muni. In 1894 Lalluji Muni was inflicted with disease. He requested Shrimad to grant him self-realisation before he died. In response, Shrimad wrote the ‘Chha Padno Patra’ to memorize.
In 1896, Shrimad composed ‘Shri Atmasiddhi Shastra’ in Nadiad and Lalluji Muni was one of the 4 devotees who received a copy.[2] In 1897, Lalluji Muni attained self-realization after 30 days of close association with Shrimad Rajchandra in Vaso.
