Legend (numismatics)

In numismatics, legend (from Latin: legere, to read), is an inscription at a coin, medal, or seal. It include all of the writing present of it, including: words, abriviations, monograms, lettres, and numbers. The legend can be present on the obverse, reverse, and edge, and can consist of the information such as a face value, year of issue, a sign of mint and the engraver, and motto.[1][2]
