History
The market has existed for several centuries. During the Silk Road-era, the traders from Kashmir, Turkestan and China used to gather here during the summer months for doing business.[1]
Between 2015-2016, the Main Bazaar and the Old Fort Road of the market was converted into pedestrian zone.[2] The new design of the Main Bazaar was sketched by a town planner from Sikkim following the example of the renewal of Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Gangtok.[2]
