Lift (2021 film)

The film starts by showing Guru Prasad (Kavin) who joins as a team leader in Amrak, an IT company in Chennai. Guru, who is slightly rude to his team members, hangs around Harini (Amritha Aiyer), the HR manager, who also got transferred there a week ago. It is because of their meeting a month ago, they sort of develop a crush towards each other. The day goes as usual and everybody leaves except for Guru, who was given an important work by the VP. So Guru, stays back, completes the work and leaves through the lift. But it malfunctions and ends up in a random floor. After that, he encounters weird events and later gets shocked seeing a security guard committing suicide in front of him.

A petrified Guru decides to escape the office as soon as possible, but stopped by a door knocking from inside. When he opens it, he sees Harini inside. Unknown of what's happening, she suspects Guru for locking her. But then, even she encounters the same abnormal events in the lift. So Harini and Guru team up together and try every move to escape from the office. So after many trials of escape and deriving many clues, they come to a conclusion that there are two ghosts there and that they committed suicide and died. By combining all these clues, they try to find ways to escape.

But things go haywire when Harini is possessed by the ghost and ruins the plan what Guru did (He cuts the wire of the lift and when they jump, the lift will fall and they would survive). Guru, who wants Harini to survive, makes the ghost difficult to haunt both of them by smoking a cigarette with a drug. By this, Guru saves Harini, goes to the lift and starts jumping. The lift falls and Harini survives but Guru almost dies.

Guru surviving for his life and the flashback of the death of the previous team leader, Sundar (Kiran Konda) and his fiancée Tara (Gayathri Reddy), who worked in the same company as the HR, are shown simultaneously. After Guru hallucinates about the flashback, we see him surviving. Then it is shown that Guru and Harini reunite and the justified part being that the VP, who was responsible for Sundar and Tara's death, died even before Guru and Harini encountted all these. Then the film ends with the song 'Inna Mylu?'

The film project was announced by debutant director Vineeth Varaprasad. Kavin was cast as the lead actor and he began shooting for the film offer soon after his eviction from the third season of Bigg Boss Tamil.[6] The principal photography of the film wrapped within just 20 days before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-production work proceeded shortly after the end of film shooting.[7]

The soundtrack album features two songs.[8] The first single titled "Inna Mylu" was unveiled on 22 April 2021 and it became an instant hit, receiving 30 million views in YouTube.[9][10]
