Maddy Parsons
Maddy (Madeline) Parsons is a British biologist, and the Professor of cell biology at King's College London.[1]
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Bath[1] and a PhD in Medicine from the University College London.[2]
She is the recipient of the 2005 Royal Society University Research Fellowship Award[3] and the 2019 Industry and Academic Collaboration Award.[4]
In 2005, Parsons set up her own research group[5] utilising live-cell advanced imaging approaches to ensure the precision of spatio-temporal dissection of receptor and cytoskeletal signaling.[6] Through this, she engineered relationships with clinicians helping them reveal molecular mechanisms in life-threatening diseases.[7] One example of this was the partnership with Nikon which resulted in the creation of King's College’s Nikon Imaging Centre where she is Director.[8]
Industry positions Parsons holds include: Cell Biology Professor in the Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics;[9] Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology[10] and a board member of the Open Biology at the Royal Society of Publishing.[11] In December 2020, she was appointed to chair the UK Medical Research Council's Molecular & Cellular Medicine Board (MCMB) from April 2021.[12]
