Directorate of Town and Country Planning

The Directorate of Town and Country Planning[1]  (DTCP), is nodal planning agency for Some Urban agglomerations and its Suburbs of Indian state of TamilNadu. Regionally it is called as Local Planning Authority (LPA) for the cities like Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli etc.,..[2][3][4][5] It was set up for the purposes of planning, co-ordination, supervising, promoting and securing the planned development of the Urban areas of Tamil Nadu. It coordinates the development activities of the municipal corporations, municipalities and other local authorities.[6][7][8][9][10]

Salem LPA

The Salem Local Planning Authority [11] ( SLPA ), is nodal planning agency for Salem City Municipal Corporation and its Suburbs of Indian state of TamilNadu. Salem Local Planning Authority administers the Salem Metropolitan Area, spread over an area of 675.59 km2. And covers the area of Salem City Municipal Corporation, 8 Town Panchayats and 7 Panchayat Unions. Total population of the area covered by Salem Local Planning Authority is 17,74,122.[12][13][14][15]

History

The Salem Local Planning Authority is constituted as an ad hoc body in 1972 under the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act 1971. It was formed as the nodal town planning authority for the city of Salem and its suburbs (Neighborhoods of Salem) and became a statutory body in 1997. It is headed by district collector as its chairman. And this authority is under Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.[16][17][18][19]

Coimbatore LPA

The Coimbatore Local Planning Authority ( CLPA ), is nodal planning agency for Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation and its Suburbs of Indian state of TamilNadu. Coimbatore Local Planning Authority administers the Coimbatore Metropolitan Area, spread over an area of 1276 km2.Total population of the area covered by Coimbatore Local Planning Authority is 16.96 lakhs as per 2001 census.

Madurai LPA

The Madurai Local Planning Authority (MLPA) is a nodal planning agency for Madurai City and its suburbs of the Indian state of TamilNadu.[27][28] Madurai Local Planning Authority administers the Madurai metropolitan area and covers entire Madurai district.[29][30][31][32]

The Tiruchirappalli Local Planning Authority (TLPA) is a nodal planning agency for the Tiruchirappalli Metropolitan Area and its suburbs of Indian state of TamilNadu.[33] Local Planning Authority for Tiruchirappalli was created on 5 April 1974 as per the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act of 1971.[34][35][36][37][38][39]
