Mahla (short film)
Mahla, is a 2009 Mozambican drama short film directed by Mickey Fonseca and co-produced by director himself with António Forjaz for Mahla Filmes.[1] The film stars Edna Jaire in the lead role whereas Azagaia Edson da Luz, Mário Mabjaia and Gigliola Zacara made supportive roles.[2] The film revolves around Ermelinda, a nurse working at the Maputo Central Hospital. She becomes pregnant and decides to leave her abusive and alcoholic husband, Jerry, but life is unpredictable and she cannot leave her son Nelito.[3][4]

The film has been shot in Maputo, Mozambique in September 2009 from six days. The film made its premier on 20 August 2009 in Mozambique. The film received positive reviews from critics. The film also nominated for best short at many film competitions: AMAA (Nigeria), TARIFA (Spain), Aguilar del Campoo (Spain), Festival Du Film D'Afrique et des Iles (Reunion Isalnd) and XXX Festival Cinema Africano. (Verona, Italy).[5]
