Margaret Huang
Margaret L. Huang is a human rights and racial justice advocate[1] and president and chief executive of Southern Poverty Law Center, an American civil rights nonprofit. She joined the organization in April 2020,[2][3] taking over a position held for several decades by founder Morris Dees.

Biography
She is a graduate of School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University and Georgetown University.[4] From December 2015 to April 2020, Huang served as executive director of Amnesty International.[5] Earlier in her career, she worked as a program director of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.[3]
Career
Asked by a New York magazine journalist about her goals at SPLC, she said:
We’re setting out to figure out how we can lift two million people, or more, out of poverty in our southern states over the next five years. We’re also trying to reduce the number of people responding to public opinion polls who adhere to white nationalism ideology.[6]
In July 2019, she testified in front of Congress, at a hearing on "Oversight of the Unaccompanied Children Program: Ensuring the Safety of Children in HHS Care" for the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, United States House Committee on Appropriations.[7]
She is the author of a chapter "Going Global: Appeals to International and Regional Human Rights Bodies" in Bringing Human Rights Home: A History of Human Rights in the United States, edited by Cynthia Soohoo, Catherine Albisa and Martha F. Davis.[8]
In September 2020, she received the Civil Rights Award from the March on Washington Film Festival.[9]
