MaryKay Carlson

MaryKay Loss Carlson is an American diplomat who has been the United States Chargé d’affaires in Argentina[1] since January 20, 2021 after having served as Deputy Chief of Mission since September 2019.[2]

Biography

Carlson graduated from Rhodes College in 1985 with a degree in Spanish and international studies before pursuing an M.A. in international relations from Georgetown University and M.S. in national security strategy from the National War College.[3] She is married to retired Foreign Service officer Aubrey Carlson, and they have two daughters.[4]

Career

A Foreign Service officer since 1985,[4] Carlson worked at the Embassy of the United States in New Delhi, India[5] as the Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’affaires.[2] She has also served at U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China (twice), Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, Consulate General in Hong Kong, Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique, Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Embassy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her domestic assignments include Director of the Secretary’s Executive Secretariat Staff and Deputy Director of Korean Affairs.[4]
