Mary Laurene Browne (born February 26, 1943) is a Liberian catholic sister, an educator and former president of Stella Maris Polytechnic University in Monrovia.[1][2] She is also the author of many textbooks and other publications. As an educator, Browne has contributed immensely to the education of hundreds of Liberians home and abroad. As president of the Stella Maris Polytechnic University, Browne played a key role in its transformation from being a little-known polytechnic to one of Liberia's best higher learning institution that has molded some of the country's best and brilliant minds.[3][4][5]

Mary Laurene Browne was born in Gadetarbo Chiefdom, Maryland County to Mr. and Mrs. David Browne. Her parents divorced when she was six years old.[1]

Browne first attended the African Methodist Episcopal Parish Day School (AME), and later enrolled at Our Lady of Fatima High school in Maryland County.[1] After graduating from high school, she traveled to the United States, where she attended Alvernia University. Upon the completion of her college education at Alvernia, she entered the Bernadine Franciscan Sisters Convert in Reading, Pennsylvania.[1]
