Mathan Singh
Rifleman Mathan Singh was a soldier of Indian Army who got martyred in the Indo-Pakistani war of 1965. He was awarded Vir Chakra posthumously for his bravery.[1]

Personal Life
He was Tanwar Rajput with roots in Bapora village in Bhiwani district of Haryana. He was born to Siri Chand Singh and Surja Bai.[2]
Military career
He was commissioned in 2nd battalion The Rajputana Rifles on 16 June 1962 at the age of 19.[3]

RIFLEMAN MATHAN SINGH (2851209)
2nd BATTALION THE RAJPUTANA RIFLESOn 6 September 1965, during a counter-attack on the enemy on the bridge over the river Ravi near Dera Baba Nanak, Rifleman Mathan Singh was the leader of an LMG unit in one of the sections of Rajputana Rifles. After the battalion had captured its objective, the portion which Rifleman Mathan Singh's section was holding was severely counter-attacked by the enemy Rifleman Mathan Singh bore the brunt of this attack and kept the enemy at bay. He was severely wounded, but did not leave his gun. When the enemy force attacked again, Rifleman Mathan Singh prevented it from advancing. When the enemy retreated, Rifleman Mathan Singh was found dead with his gun still to his shoulder.
By his supreme sacrifice, Rifleman Mathan Singh enabled his company to hold on to its position. He displayed gallantry of a very high order in the best traditions of the Indian Army.

Remembrance
The Bhiwani railway station is dedicated to Mathan Singh in honor of him. A crossroad is also named after him.
