Playing career

On April 3, 2018, Coronato announced his commitment to play for Harvard University.[3] His collegiate career is set to begin with the 2021–22 season.[4]

After playing preparatory school hockey in Connecticut with Salisbury School during the 2018–19 season, Coronato joined the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2019–20. As a rookie with the Steel, Coronato ranked sixth on the team with 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) in 45 games while earning a spot on the USHL's all-rookie second team.

Coronato set multiple Steel franchise records in the 2020–21 USHL season. He scored 48 goals in 51 games, the highest single-season figure ever recorded by a Steel player and the second-highest in recent USHL history since Jason Blake scored 50 goals in 57 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks in 1993–94. Coronato also became Chicago's all-time leader in career goals, with 66, and was named the USHL's forward of the year for 2020–21. During Chicago's 2021 Clark Cup championship run, Coronato led all USHL skaters with nine goals and 13 points in eight games.[5]

The NHL Central Scouting Bureau ranked Coronato as the ninth-best North American skater eligible for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.[1] On July 23, 2021, the Calgary Flames selected Coronato with the 13th overall pick in the 2021 draft.[2]
