Mauricio Oliva Herrera (born 8 March 1951 in Tegucigalpa) is a Honduran surgeon and politician. He currently serves as deputy of the National Congress of Honduras representing the National Party of Honduras for Choluteca and as the President of the National Congress of Honduras.[1][2]
In 2021, he was a candidate in the National Party primary for the presidential election. He wa considered the man closest to President Hernández and the candidate who could best protect him when he leaves office amid accusations that Hernández had links to the Los Cachiros cartel. Although he distanced himself from the president, many analysts believed that this was a political strategy designed to drum up support rather than a legitimate break from the unpopular Hernández. His campaign coordinator is Vice President Ricardo Álvarez, who is also named in the New York trial.[3]
