Max Crivello

He was born in Palermo. After completing regular artistic studies, Crivello travelled and worked both in Italy and internationally.

Max Crivello is descended from an ancient Milan family.

His artistic activity ranges from painting to graphics and comics: since 1975 he has begun to exhibit and collaborated with various publishers for the publication of illustrated books and comics. From 1986, he collaborated as an independent illustrator and cartoonist for the Giornale di Sicilia. It illustrates the work of W. Galt, Les Bienheureux Paoli, Feuilleton de la grand histoire des romans à feuillets, français revit dans les planches réalisés par le maître, pour éditeur Flaccovio et Giornale di Sicilia. He works as a professor in an art institute of the Sicilian territory. In 1997 he founded the non-profit cultural institution School of Sicilian comics. From 1999, Max was in charge of the newspaper’s special leaflets in Sicily, with the weekly supplement now Sicily Comics , as the responsible director. After a long period of isolation due to the loss of his wife, Max returns to painting with cycles of work dedicated to the imaginary characters of the universe of fairy tales and fiction, with the cycle of Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Conan, The Holy Bible, the stories of Jules Verne

The international comic book magazine, Fumetti d’Italia, dedicates a name-on-the-cover recognition with the masters of global comic books. The shadows of Saturn mark for the master, a point of technical change in comics, by studying the techniques of Franco/Belgian comics.

With the study of the book of Toth, and of the Egyptian culture and of hermetic and symbolic rites, the Tarot Slides are born with texts taken from the tables of Ermete Trimegisto, with which he acquires the Hermatena Prize 2004, and its tables are exhibited at the Tarot Museum in Bologna.

In the execution of the institutional missions, during his teaching career organized exhibitions and events with free legal aid from the city of Palermo and the Sicilian region, among which the International Exhibition of Pinocchio and Mafia, the architecture of pain in memory of the two judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino And General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, designed and realized in collaboration with his students with the patronage of the Province of Palermo in 2000. At the beginning of 2003 continues the historical project/path of the architecture of a mafia, which extends the pain with a research on the old and new motivation of the mafias in Palermo.

From this study, a dossier and a scenario for television were published. The participation of the institutional school with prizes of international importance, which awards scholarships to students, as in 2004, the prize of the Festival International de Cinéma et de comics Comics Dervio 2004 and stories with the story of four tables Crash 24, Interpretation of September 11 in New York.

To follow, the project of the reconstruction of the assassination of the comic strip mafia, Mafia: architecture of a pain, move to the realization of cinema format with the sequence plan, realized in Palermo during the celebration of the death of Joe Petrosino of the Piazza Marina. He has received several awards and honors for his work in the promotion of legality and solidarity between peoples, in support of the poorest classes and for projects dedicated to the animation of youth in a Sicily mafia, against crime.

In March 2003, in Palermo, he was ambushed by unknown assailants who caused head trauma and fractured fingers of the left hand, with the intention of stopping his artistic activities against crime.

This ambush is reported to the police, but the investigations lead to no results.

This episode causes a loss of memory following trauma. After a long treatment, some of his memories are fragmentarily repeated, but much of the latter is suppressed.

For serious health reasons, ceased his professional and artistic activity.

With the Anthology Anthologie à 40 ans d'activité artistique, Art et Solidarité1, with the patronage of the Province of Palermo (2011)2, ends the active phase of Crivello, in this anthology, desired by former students, friends and enthusiasts, are accomplished with simplicity, all the artistic, conceptual and operational phases of Crivello alone and with his pupils, for the promotion of the Arts and Letters, but above all work in legality with a spirit of solidarity.

With the drawing for the Card annualità 2013, given to Anafi, Crivello made his last official drawing dedicated to his good friend, Paolo Gallinari.
