Mahmood Jan Deputy Speaker
Mahmood Jan (Urdu: محمود جان; ) is a Pakistani politician who currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in office since August 2018. He has been a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since August 2018. Previously, he was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 2013 to May 2018.

Early life and education
Mahmood Jan, Son of Mr. Abdul Rashid Khan was born on 5 May 1969 at Village Kafoor Dheri, Peshawar. He is a " Khalil Sub Tribe Barozai" Pashtoon Landlord and belongs to a well-known Political family. The Village Kafoor Dheri is located near Warsak area of District Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. He did his schooling from a Private School, Peshawar Model School. He has a degree of Bachelor of Arts from prestigious Edwards College Peshawar which is also considered as a historical landmark in Pakistan. His grandfather Abdul Hameed Khan was a respected Politician from Pakistan Muslim League who played a key role as an ally of Quaid-e-Azam, as Salar, during independence of Pakistan. His maternal grand father Mukarram Khan of Shabqadar was also a Politician of Pakistan Muslim League. His Paternal uncle Haji Abdur Rehman Khan of Kafoor Dheri from Awami National Party remained Member of Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for three times. Since the age of 18, Mr. Mahmood Jan was interested in social activities and Politics. He is fond of cricket and volley ball. .[1]
Political career
He contested Local Government Elections as an Independent candidate and was elected as Nazim of Union Council Kafoor Dheri in 2005. Inspired from the philanthropic activities and political vision of Mr. Imran Khan aimed at the well-being of the public of Pakistan, he decided to join Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2011. He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Constituency PK-7 (Peshawar-VII) in 2013 Pakistan General Elections. He received 12,583 votes and defeated Hafiz Hashmat Khan, a candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI) former Provincial Minister and Mr. Kiramatullah Khan (PPP Candidate),Ex-Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. During the tenure, he remained the Chairperson of Standing Committee on Health He was re-elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a candidate of PTI from Constituency PK-66 (Peshawar-I) in 2018 Pakistani General Elections.[3] For the Second time, he defeated Ex Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmatti (PPP) and Hafiz Hashmat Khan (JI), former Provincial Minister. Following his successful election, PTI nominated him for the office of Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. He received 78 votes against his opponent Jamshaid Khan Mohmand who received 30 votes.[6][4]Mr. Mahmood Jan has taken oath as Deputy Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on 15 August, 2018 and is still holding the position. He is also Chairperson of the two Standing Committees i.e. Standing Committee No. 1 on Procedure & Conduct of Business Rules, Privileges, & Implementation of Government Assurance and Standing Committee No.4 on House & Library.
