Reception
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 100% approval rating based on 8 reviews, with an average ranking of 8.4/10.[3]
Nigel M Smith of The Guardian wrote "Each portrait melds to create a heartrending whole guaranteed to make men think to call their mothers more often. To those who have lost their mothers, the experience of watching Mom and Me might prove unbearable -- it's that touching".[1]
Aine O'Connor of the Irish Independent cautioned that "The men who end up talking are not random, they're a carefully-selected, cross-section and their reflections are funny and sometimes very moving".[4]
In a review for The Irish Times, Donald Clarke wrote "[the director] chooses his own emotional environment and he explores it with admirable sensitivity and humour. Worth the admission price for the pets alone".[5]
According to Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter "There is no real wisdom imparted in these stories, only evidence of the weird variety of humankind and the imperishability of that most essential and elemental of human relationships, between a mother and child".[6]
The national film magazine, Film Ireland, praised the film for "captur[ing] the universal experience of motherly love perfectly",[7]
