Monarch is an upcoming American television drama series about country music family the Romans. The series is written by Melissa London Hilfers and produced by Fox Entertainment.[1]

Premise

Monarch is a multigenerational musical drama about the Romans. Family is headed by Dottie Roman and Albie Roman who have created a country music dynasty together. However, the origins of the dynasty isn't what it seems to be. Roman's daughter Nicky Roman steps in and does all she can to protect the dynasty's reign in country music while ensuring her own stardom.[2]

Development

The series was annnounced in May 2021. It is written and executive produced by Melissa London Hilfers. Michael Rauch was the original showrunner and one of the executive producers but he was replaced by Jon Feldman in November 2021.[3] Other executive producers are Hend Baghdady, Gail Berman and Jason Owen. The episodes will be hour-long.[4] Jason Ensler has been tapped to direct and executive produce the two-part pilot.[5]

Casting

In September 2021 Susan Sarandon, Trace Adkins, Beth Ditto, Josh Sasse, Megan Holder, Inigo Dominic Pascual, Martha Higareda and Emma Milani were announced to join the series in leading roles[6][7][8][9][10][11][12] along with the recurring cast Eva Amurri, Adam Croasdell and Faith Prince.[13][14][15] In November 2021 Callum Kerr, Kevin Cahoon, Reshma Shetty, Damon Dayoub and D.W. Moffett were announced to join the series' recurring cast. [16][17]

Release

Monarch debuts with a special two-night event beginning on Sunday 30 Jan 2022 and continuing on Tuesday 1 February 2022.[18]
