Naomi Girma

Naomi Haile Girma (born June 14, 2000) is an American soccer player who plays college soccer for the Stanford Cardinal, as a defender and midfielder.

Early and personal life

Girma was born in San Jose, California,[3] to parents originally from Ethiopia.[4] She has one older brother.[3]

Club career

Girma began her career with CV Crossfire, De Anza Force & CA Thorns Academy.[3]

She played college soccer for the Stanford Cardinal, for whom she served as team captain and won the 2019 NCAA Cup.[3][5] She missed the early part of the 2021 season after tearing her ACL.[6]

International career

Girma played for the United States under-17, United States under-19 and United States under-20 teams.[3] She served as captain for the under-20 team.[7]

In December 2020 she as voted the 2020 U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year.[7][8][9]
