Nasima Khan Monty

Nasima Khan Monty (née Nasima; born February 21, 1977) is a Bangladeshi journalist and writer. She is the editor of the national daily newspapers Amader Shomoy & Amader Orthoneeti. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has honored Nasima Monty on behalf of the Bangladesh Online Media Association for her contribution to journalism and online media. She is the wife of a media personality and an active figure in Bangladesh's journalism, Nayeemul Islam Khan.[1][2][3][4]

Education

She graduated from the Chittagong University with a degree in Public Administration and a post-graduate degree in Women's Education from Dhaka University.[5]

Career

While studying at Chittagong University in 1997, she started her career as a university correspondent for the daily Ajker Kagoj (1997-1998). In addition to journalism, she has taken a higher degree in film and mass media. She is also involved with the Bangladesh Center for Development, Journalism, and Communication (BCDGC), a media research and training organization. Later on, she worked for a few years in the news department of ATN News, a private television channel in Bangladesh. Upon her leave from there, she was appointed as the editor of Amader Somoy. Later, she worked in the editorial department of the English daily "The Our Time" and the Bengali daily "Amader Notun Somoy." Along with journalism, she also has worked at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD).[6][7][8][3][5]

Honors

She received the Bangladesh Online Media Association Award on October 7, 2007, for her contribution to online journalism.[4] On October 7, 2017, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan honored Nasima Monty on behalf of the Bangladesh Online Media Association for her special role in journalism and online media.[4]

2013 Attack

In 2013, Nasima and her husband were returning home from a social event on 11 March when their car, which was marked as a car belonging to the media, was attacked with Molotov cocktails, one of which hit the car. She and her husband had to go to the hospital for treatment. The source of the attacks was unknown. The International Federation of Journalists believed they could have been targeted as her husband had been making frequent television appearances in talk shows. The Committee to Protect Journalists called for quick investigations and demanded the violence directed against journalists be stopped.[9][10][11]
