History
On January 1, 1938, the Nassau County charter was formally created.[1] Leading up to the creation of the charter, Nassau County voters approved a governmental reorganization plan, laying the groundwork for the modern county layout.[2] From this, the office of County Executive was created in tandem with the Board of Supervisors, which was abolished in 1996 and replaced with the legislature after being ruled unconstitutional. Several changes were made to the charter, including revising the role of executive.[3]
