Nate Nehring

Nathan A. Nehring (born 1995 or 1996)[1] is an American politician serving as a member of the Snohomish County Council who represents the 1st district. He was appointed to the seat in 2017 after the incumbent, Ken Klein resigned. He was 21 at the time of his appointment making him the youngest person to serve on the council.[1]

At the time of his appointment he was a middle school science teacher, chair of the Stanwood planning commission, and the son of the Mayor of Marysville, Jon Nehring. He was one of three candidates nominated to fill the vacancy created by Klein's resignation. The other two were Marysville City Councilman Michael Stevens and Darrington Town Councilman Kevin Ashe.[1]

He served as the Vice Chair of the Snohomish County Council, and when County Council Chair Terry Ryan took a job with the County Executive, he was unanimously elected Council chair.[2] In January 2021, he was succeeded as chair by his vice chair Stephanie Wright.[3]

In August 2021, he joined Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers and the entire Snohomish County Council in welcoming Afghan refugees.[4] The following November he was re-elected with over 69% of the vote.[5]
