The December 2021 New Year's Smash is the upcoming second New Year's Smash professional wrestling television special produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). It is set to take place at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida on December 29, 2021. The two-part event will be broadcast on TNT as special episodes of AEW's weekly television programs, Dynamite and Rampage, the latter of which will air on tape delay on December 31. It will be the second New Year's Smash event to be held in 2021, after the first took place in January. The December 29 episode of Dynamite will mark the show's final episode on TNT as starting January 5, 2022, Dynamite will move to TBS.

Production

Background

In January 2021, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) held a two-part television special of Dynamite called New Year's Smash. On November 8, 2021, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that AEW would hold Dynamite live on December 29, with an episode of Rampage airing on tape delay on New Year's Eve, and that both episodes would be part of New Year's Smash. The December 29 episode will mark the final episode of Dynamite on TNT. Starting on January 5, 2022, the show will move to TBS, with Rampage remaining on TNT. This is part of AEW's end-of-year Christmas party. The event will return AEW to its home venue of Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.[1]

Storylines

New Year's Smash will feature professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.[2] Storylines are produced on AEW's weekly shows Dynamite, Rampage, Dark, and Elevation and on The Young Bucks' YouTube series Being The Elite.
