The Next Media Services, commonly known as the Next Media, is a multimedia conglomerate in Uganda.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

History

The group was established in 2007, with NBS Television (Uganda).[8] Since 2008 Kin Kariisa serves as the CEO of Next Media Services.[2][9] In 2014, Kariisa acquired NBS Television (Uganda) fully. In 2015 Salam TV was launched, an Islam-inclined television station, the first of its kind in Uganda.[10][11] In 2016, it opened up Sanyuka TV.[12] In October 2017, Nile Post newspaper was launched.[13][5] In 2018 the company launched a youth-oriented station Nxt Radio.[14] In 2019, Next Communications, a digital media agency was launched. In the same year, Next Productions Limited, a video and audio production house was also founded.[15] In January 2021, Next Media Services launched Afro Mobile[16] As of October 2021, Next Media Services has 7 brands under it.[1][4]

The Group owns online newspaper (Nile Post), radio stations (Nxt Radio) and television stations, as of January 2021.[17][18][19]

Controversies

On 1 October 2021, 3 employees (Isaac ‘Kaiyz’ Kawalya, Brian Wako and Marko) of Next Media Services were arrested on charges of offensive communication.[28][7]
