Nieuwe Pekela
Nieuwe Pekela is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Pekela, about 6 km southeast of Veendam.

Nieuwe Pekela was a separate municipality until 1990, when it merged with Oude Pekela to form the new municipality of Pekela.[1]

Famous people
Marcel Meijer (b. 1966), the mayor of the Danish island of Samsø was born in Nieuwe Pekela.
Synax (b. 2002), electronic music duo, live in Nieuwe Pekela.
René Paas, the King's Commissioner in the province of Groningen, lived in Nieuwe Pekela in his youth.[2]
