Nigerian traditional marriage

Traditional marriage in Nigeria[1] is based on the coming together of two Nigerian families in agreement to give their children in marriage to each other. The tradition is passed down through generations, and it is respected across Nigerian families. A traditional marriage is one which is based on the tradition of the specific people carrying out the marriage rights.[2] Nigeria is a multi-tradition country, as it includes the Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa, and other ethnic groups, so traditional marriage is not done the same way across the entire country, since almost every ethnic group seem to have their unique way of doing it. Traditional marriage is only approved for consenting adults after a period of courtship between the man and the woman. The traditional marriage is recognized by Christians, Muslims, and other religions as the primary and most honourable way of getting married.
