Nuwandhika Senarathne

Nuwandhika Senarathne (born 23 June 1993) is an Sri Lankan singer and television personality who is most known as a playback singer, as well as a performer of Opera and Ghazals.

Nuwandhika Senarathne was born on 23 June 1993 in Narammala, Sri Lanka, as the only child in the family. She grew up in Narammala, a small town near Kurunegala. She attended Mayurapada Primary school, Narammala for her primary education and then she attended Mayurapada Central College, Narammala. She completed her Visharad Diploma in 2011 before entering the university for higher education.[1]

She studied western music at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts and completed her university degree (Bachelor of Performing Arts Special Degree in Western Music) in 2019 with a Second Class Upper division. She is an A-Grade singer at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.[1][2]

Career

Nuwandhika started to learn music formally when she was ten years old. She took part in a university competition in 2015 with an own song where she finished third. She entered into her next competition and won the grand prize of a full sponsorship to represent her university in the South Asian Inter-university Music Festival in India.[2]

She competed in the TV reality show Derana Dream Star season IX in 2020. Nuwandhika came second place in the competition despite being the most popular star throughout the show.[3][4]

In October 2020, she sang the song “obata Lanwi” with Raween Kanishka for FM Derana “Apoorva” radio drama.[5][6] She was pushed into the public sphere more after sang a theme song “sihinayak mewna”(March, 2021) for the Iskole teledrama, broadcast on TV Derana.[7][8][9] In August 2021, she sang the song “malen upan samanali” with Raween Kanishka for TV Derana, Deweni Inima tele drama and that song reached 10 million views in three months. [10][11]

In addition to being a singer, she has hosted a TV program in TV Derana.[2] Nuwandhika is a brand ambassador for SLTMobitel.[12][13] She's also a promotional star of Lionco[14] and Nature's Secrets.[15]
