IBM Cloud


IBM Cloud, (formerly known as Bluemix) is a set of cloud computing services for business offered by the information technology company IBM.

The service supports several programming languages and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud. Natively supported languages including Java, Node.js, Go, PHP, Swift, Python, Ruby Sinatra, and Ruby on Rails, and functionality can be extended to support other languages such as Scala through the use of buildpacks.[1][2]

History

IBM acquired public cloud platform SoftLayer in June 2013 to serve as the foundation for its IaaS offering.[3][4]

Bluemix was announced for public beta in February 2014, with general availability offered in July 2014.[5]

By April 2015, Bluemix included a suite of over 100 cloud-based development tools, including services to support social, mobile, security, analytics, database, and internet of things development and deployment.

In October 2017, IBM unified the entire cloud portfolio under the IBM Cloud brand.[6][7]
