Opera length

Opera length is a term used to indicate the length of clothing itself or accessories in women's fashion.[1] The expression is applied to the following.

• Necklace[2]：The term was coined as women flocked to the opera in long strands of pearls.[3]
• Glove：Opera gloves are not necessarily meant to be worn in opera or theatre only, as many may think. Term "opera gloves" rather describes the certain length of the glove and usually that type of gloves is considered evening or going out style. So, length which comes up to mid upper arm or any length that is above the elbow - is called opera gloves. Opera length gloves goes over the elbow, usually reaching all the way to the biceps but sometimes it can be even full length of the arm, all the way up to the shoulder.[4]
• Stocking (size[5][6])：Originally, "Opera hose" were the very, very long stockings worn by professional dancers before the advent of pantyhose.[7][8] Nowadays, "Opera stockings" or "opera length stockings" are the longest size category of stockings for the long legs of tall women.[9]
• Cigarette holder

They come in a variety of lengths, from short to long, but the one whose length division is represented as "opera" often means the longest of them.

"Opera" is a typical performing art of Western culture. The relationship between it and "opera length" is ambiguous. However, women who play an important role in an operatic ball, such as debutantes, traditionally wear long necklaces and long gloves.[10][11][12] The word "opera length" is used for those lengths.
