The album is considered a cult classic.[4][2] Writing for The Guardian, Hermione Hoby called the album "a roiling masterpiece".[4] In a review for AllMusic, Rolf Semprebon referred to the album as being "one of Catherine Ribeiro's more intense recordings", further writing that "The band is less folkish on this outing and veering more into space rock, with a sound that is even more cosmic".[1] Pitchfork's Sam Sodomsky wrote: "If Âme Debout was the sound of a band finding its footing, then 1972’s Paix is when they become airborne. It stands as Ribeiro’s masterpiece because it comes the closest to containing her multitudes."[2]
