Paradise Square (musical)

Paradise Square is a stage musical, with music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Masi Asare, and a book by Christina Anderson, Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. The production is directed by Moises Kaufman and choreographed by Bill T. Jones.[1] It is expected to premiere at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in March 2022. The musical is produced by Garth Drabinsky who was charged and convicted for fraud. He served time in a Canadian prison. On June 25, 2018, all charges in the US against Garth Drabinsky were dismissed by the Southern District of New York.[2]

Production history

The musical is based on Hard Times, originally conceived by Kirwan, which was originally presented Off Off Broadway in 2012.

The musical premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California on December 27, 2018, for a limited run which was extended to March 3, 2019.[3]

It has a pre-Broadway run at the Nederlander Theatre (Chicago) from November 2, 2021 through December 5, 2021.[4] The production opened to mostly positive reviews.[5]

The musical is expected to premiere at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New York City on February 22, 2022, prior to an official opening on March 20, 2022.
