Patricia Thompson (businesswoman)

Patricia Thompson CBE (born March 1940) is a British businesswomen and co-owner of Cheveley Park Stud, a stud farm based in the United Kingdom.[1] Thompson was married to British entrepreneur David Thompson.[1] They are both estimated to be worth £800 million by the Sunday Times Rich List.[1]

Career

Cheveley Park Stud

In 1975, Thompson and her husband purchased Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket, Suffolk, United Kingdom, and remain the owners today.[2] It is the oldest stud farm in Newmarket.[2] When she bought the 270-acre farm, it was in the hands of bankruptcy receivers.[3] Now the farm has just under 1,000 acres.[3]

Under Thompson's leadership, Cheveley Park Stud has bred or raced the winners of 25 G1 races since early 1990s.[3]

Horse racing

In 1992, Thompson purchased Party Politics, a thoroughbred racehorse which went on to win the Grand National that year at Aintree Racecourse.[4]

In 2017, Thompson bought racehorses Le Mercurey and Highland Lodge a week before the annual Grand National.[5]

In 2018, Thompson and her husband David bought SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT, a 10-year-old racehorse. It finished in 11th place in that year's Grand National.[5]

Personal life

Thompson was married to David Thompson, who co-founded food company Hillsdown Holdings.[1] Together, they had one son and two daughters.

Thompson's son, Richard Thompson, is a director at Cheveley Park Stud.[6]

Together with her husband, Thompson was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to charity.[7]
