Phil Rookes
Philip William Rookes (23 April 1919 – February 2003) was an English footballer who played as a full back in the Football League.

Career
Born in Dulverton, Somerset, Rookes played for Bradford City, Portsmouth and Colchester United in the Football League.[1]
Rookes joined Bradford City in October 1936 from Worksop Town.[2] He made 11 league and 3 FA Cup appearances,[3] before joining Portsmouth in January 1938.[2]
He was a member of the Portsmouth First Division championship-winning teams of 1948–49 and 1949–50.[4]
Personal life
Phil met Pamela in the summer of 1959. They married in March 1960, Phil's second marriage. Together they managed the Dog and Duck in Portsmouth near Fratton Park for a couple of months before their daughter Julie was born in May 1961. Phil then started work for Brickwoods Brewery and they bought a house in Bognor Regis. Phil and Pam divorced in September 1964. Julie went onto marry Jeff and had two children, Jessica and Joe. They live in Bromley, Kent. Joe is an active, avid Portsmouth fan.
