Rebekah Smith

Rebekah Louisa Smith (born 1982) is an English author, businesswoman, and media personality. She is a Film festival strategist and founder of The Film Festival Doctor.[1][2][3][4] Her projects include a feature-length documentary based on the story of George Michael's life –George Michael Freedom - The Directors Cut, which was featured in over 24 international festivals and won five awards.[5][6]

Early life and education

Smith was born in Worcestershire, United Kingdom, in 1982.[7] She attended Pershore High School in Worcestershire.

Smith graduated from Gloucestershire University with a major in Film Studies and completed her post-graduation in Film & Audience Research from the same university. Later on, she enrolled for a Doctorate Degree in Film & Audience Research and completed it with a thesis based on the cinematic works of Quentin Tarantino.[3]

Career

Smith commenced her film industry career in 2009 as one of the producers of Wales's horror film festival, the Abertoir Horror Festival.[8][9][10]

She worked as an executive assistant during the early years of her career. Working as a film festival strategist, she built the foundation of her own company - The Film Festival Doctor – in 2010. She helps filmmakers secure film festival screenings and earn recognition within the industry.[11]

In 2021, she was featured in Forbes twice, where her leadership skills were highlighted.[12][13] In May 2021, she was featured in Good Housekeeping that summed up her life story as an entrepreneur.[8][14]

Her other works include Christmas(Short film).The Gesture and The Word, The Cunning Man, Mens Sana, Gary Kemp In Solo; a documentary on the Spandau Ballet lead singers new solo album,  Martin Kemp's Stalker, The Boy with A Camera For A Face. Arrivederci Rosa, Frameline, Beyond The River, Commune, Soldier Bee, Placebo: Alt. Russia, Noma: Forgiving Apartheid and the South African film Kalushi, the Story Of Solomon Mahlangu.

In April 2019, Smith's Production company, announced the development of a new horror movie starring Shayne Ward.[15][16][17]

Smith's first book Born to Do It was published in 2020.[18] In her book, Smith talks about spiritual techniques to help others become successful leaders.[19][20] Soul Spring, an online spirituality journals, featured her article Tuning Into Your Soul Purpose and Discovering What You Were Born To Do in which she talks about the significance of having a purpose in life and how to discover yourself.[21] Another online journal, Next Level Soul, shared glimpses from Smith's book Born to Do It and her personal life.[22][23]
