Early life

Wildes grew up in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, and lived for a few years in Arizona, where he met his future writing partner, Logan Antill. Wildes attended the Purchase College Film Conservatory and graduated American Film Institute in 2010.[1][2]

Film career

Wildes began his career directing the short film Neptunus Rex (2007). It won the award for Best Student Film at the 2007 New Hampshire Film Festival. Wildes directed another short, the war drama Thule (2011), which won the Short Film of the Year award at the same festival.[3]

Wildes made his feature film debut with Poor Boy (2016), a reinterpreted Western about two brothers (Lou Taylor Pucci and Dov Tiefenbach) who scam people in the Nevada desert. The cast also includes Michael Shannon, Justin Chatwin, Amanda Crew and Dale Dickey. Having its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, as part of the Viewpoints section,[4] and receiving a limited release two years later,[5] the feature garnered a negative response from critics; writing for Variety, Nick Schager called the film a "frustrating collection of lunatic elements" that "tries too hard to be weird",[6] while Sherilyn Connelly of the SF Weekly opined that Poor Boy aspires to be "both an art film and a crime film without finding the balance".[7]

In 2018, Wildes directed his second feature, Crackle’s original film In the Cloud about two computer scientists (Justin Chatwin and Adetomiwa Edun) who develop a revolutionary technology capable to access people's memories after they die.[8] According to Wildes, studio executives at Crackle made significant changes on the script right in the middle of shooting, as a result, he had a "horrible experience" working on the film.[9]

Personal life

Wildes has one daughter born in 2014 from a previous relationship.[10]
