Rockdale Opera Company

Rockdale Opera Company (ROC) is a community opera company located in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney. Its principal theatre is Rockdale Town Hall in Rockdale, NSW. The company's repertoire focuses on light opera such as Gilbert and Sullivan, as well as grand operas.

History

The company was founded in 1948, and is the oldest continuously operating opera company in Australia.[1] One of the company's founding members, Cedric Ashton MBE, remained the company's musical director for 31 years from 1948 to 1979. The refurbished auditorium in Rockdale Town Hall was named in his honour.[2] The company celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018 with a special gala concert.[3]
