Rocket.chat is an open-source team chat platform. It services include collaboration tools, conferences, customer service, and chat features such as inline code snippets with syntax highlighting, inline images and formatting support through Markdown.[1][2]

It has been described as an open-source alternative to Slack.[1][2]

In 2020, the Estonian Information System Authority set up a Rocket.Chat instance to provide secure messaging. Users can authenticate through state-issued identification.[3]
