Roman Empire Standards

Roman Empire Standards were used in place of a national flag. Vexiloids and vexillums were used throughout the Empire.[1]

Among the empire's many vexiloids, the most known was a red banner with the letters SPQR in Gold surrounded by a gold wreath hung on a military standard topped by a Roman eagle (aquila) or an image of the goddess Victoria.
